While we were still in TLF (Temporary Lodging Facility) we went on a New Comer's tour sponsored by the Air Force. They try to schedule little sight seeing day trips to surrounding cities and villages that have points of interest so you can get out and get familiar with the country.
This one was to Bury St. Edmonds. We took the whole family and had a great time. We were there on an open market day (can't remember what they were called). In Korea we had 4 & 9 markets which were held on any date with a 4 or a 9 in it. This was the British version of that. We walked around, bought some great European bread, and had lunch at a local pub. We went to the Bury St. Edmonds Abby ruins which had extensive gardens including about 3-4 mini amusement park rides. K, L, and JJ were bitter that we could not ride them. We visited the st. Edmondsbury Cathedral (that's where the stained glass picture came from). The village's namesake Edmond was the last king of East Anglia when it was taken over in 870 by the Danes. They offered to let him continue to rule if he would outlaw Christianity. He refused and was killed. The village and Abby are named for him.
We had a great day and when it was time to go we boarded the chartered bus and snoozed all the way home. What a great way to travel. :-)
