A week or so ago the U.S. schools had a couple of days off. Veterans Day was on Tuesday so the teachers arranged a "work day" on Monday. We left after S got off work on Monday and drove to RAF Fairford where we were spending the night and then drive the rest of the way to Bath on Tuesday. It was only about a 1.5 hour drive so we spent the whole day in the city of Bath. We had to take the little boys out of school for Tuesday because the UK schools weren't off.
They say that the Roman Bath House in Bath is about 2000 years old. It was interesting to see how the Romans did "plumbing" 2k years ago and that it is still working today. The bottom of one of the main pools is made up of 45 metal plates which are fitted together to hold the water in and it still works. The kids had never been there and were really interested in the "self tour" (they had things that looked like massive cell phones that would tell you about each thing as you pressed the code for that item into the "phone").
After the Bath house we ate at a little sandwich shop (it was really good!) and then got onto a double-decker convertable tour bus and toured the city of Bath. It was very interesting and on our way back to the car we stopped at garden by the river which had a stone maze laid into the grass. The kids had a great time trying to make it through the maze without touching the grass.
