Royal Shakespeare Theatre (inside)
The birthplace of Shakespeare
Outside the theatre
H and C were scheduled to go on a field trip to Stratford-upon-Avon to see the Shakespeare museum and his birthplace. Apparently, one of the chaperons had to cancel at the last minute and they asked the girls if I could go. I, of course, said YES!
We left on a bus from the school at about 8:00am and it took about 2.5 hours to get to Stratford. We'd been to Stratford a couple of times before so we kind of knew our way around. We walked to the High street where the Shakespeare museum and Birthplace are. We'd never been to either one because it had been closed or we had just planned too much and didn't have time.
It was interesting. As we came out of the Birthplace, there was an acting troop in the garden and they were taking requests. The students could request any bit of a Shakespeare play and they would act it out AND they were really good at it.
We headed off to lunch...and where do you have lunch with a bunch of teenagers...you got it...McDonalds. It wasn't top of MY list of places to eat but I was outnumbered so I succumbed.
We were sitting in McDonalds eating when one of the kids noticed that the kids who were sitting just down from us were gone. As we walked down the stairs to the entrance/exit we noticed that there was no one from our group left in the restaurant...we'd been left...sigh. Luckily, we kind of knew our way around and were able to find the theater. The Royal Shakespeare theater had been closed for some time for renovations and just reopened recently. We had advanced seats for the play Macbeth so we went right in and sat down.
The theater was very interesting. It really looked like something you'd see in a 15-1600's movie. We had pretty good seats and the play was really good. Afterwards, we boarded the bus and arrived back at the Base at around 7:30pm.
